Antenatal Clinic
Patients are seen by the midwife on alternate Wednesday mornings by appointment at Colney Medical Centre. The Practice Midwife is attached to West Herts Hospitals Trust, which runs Watford, Hemel and St. Albans Hospitals.
Baby Clinic
The baby clinics are run for child development checks and immunisations and allow an opportunity to discuss other problems, e.g sleeping, feeding and child health worries, with a doctor or health visitor.
Asthma Clinic
This is run by the practice nurse in conjunction with the doctors, by appointment only.
Diabetic Clinic
This is run by the practice nurse in conjunction with a doctor by appointment only.
Family Planning
Contraceptive care is provided by all the doctors during surgery hours. Coils and contraceptive implants are fitted by Dr Nisha Kedia after a consultation with her.
NHS Health Checks
Patients are invited to have these done as per the NHS guidance. This involves a blood test initially followed by an appointment with the Nurse or Healthcare Assistant.
Non-NHS Examinations
The doctors are happy to carry out medicals, e.g insurance and driving licence, by appointment. Please ask at reception for the charges for these services.
Counselling
Referrals can be made as per patient choice to any commissioned service by the local NHS.
Patients Over 75 Years
If you are aged 75 years or over, you should be seen annually either by your doctor, the practice nurse, district nurse or health visitor.
Travel Immunisations/Vaccinations
Please make an appointment at least four weeks in advance of your holiday to ensure adequate cover. A charge will be made for certain immunisations and vaccinations which are not covered by the NHS. A list of these charges is held at reception.
Flu Vaccination
An influenza vaccination is particularly recommended for patients with heart, lung or kidney disease, diabetes and residents of nursing and rest homes.
Please contact the reception staff in October for details of the vaccination dates and to make an appointment. If you are housebound a home visit may be arranged to undertake this.
Private Services Available
Some of the services and examinations provided by the practice are not covered by the NHS – examples include:
Indicative fees for these services are available here, but please drop your paperwork into reception, where a form for Private Work will need to be completed and you will be quoted an exact charge for the work involved within a few days.
